Hi, I bought a great Gr Britain collection and it has some extras, one of which I can't find in my Scott's Classic catalogue. Was hoping someone might be able to ID it for me.

Thanks in advance for your help! Ray

Ray.
That will be a mutilated piece of stationery, "cut square" from an envelope perhaps.
A member with Higgins and Gage catalogue should respond soon.

Hi ray.mac,

This is a die II stamp from one of several postcards issued in 1901.

Thanks Rod,
I was thinking that might be the case, or maybe even from one of the colonies, and not GrBr at all.

Appreciate your help-- Take care

I think I should a little more detail

This British stamp design was introduced on postcards in 1878.

All the Post Office postcards (and stamps) were printed in brown until this new blue-green colour was introduced in 1901.

Three dies were used over the years and these differ in small details.

The Post Office issued postcards in 1901 cards using both die II and die III.

Die I was also used in blue-green in 1901 for postcards that were "stamped to order", i.e. private postcards that were submitted for official stamping.

I expect the postmark is "LONDON.W.C".

This is the Western Central postcode area which is basically Camden and Westminster.

I rely for this kind of thing on an excellent publication, Collect British Postal Stationery, by Alan Huggins and Colin Baker.

Hi Rod,

I downloaded that somewhere and printed it off but I'd forgotten all about it until now. Thanks for reminding me!
