The creator of Renden's cover has the recall date wrong - it was the date of issue - November 14th, not the 15th.
I was refused
Canada Post's sale of the issue on the 14th by the Post Master due to her having opened the recall email from
Canada Post HQ before I arrived. Luckily, I was able to purchase 20 booklets from another source that had not read the email.
I agree with ogopogo278 that the reprinted stamp has a darker blue than the original. The two stamps can be differentiated by the blue colour in candles 3 and 6 and the 5th from the top traffic light. As
Canada Post did not change the official date of issue, the use of November 14, 2017 on the OFDC is correct. However, which stamp was used, original or reprint, can be determined by the blue colour. At this time, I have not received my OFDC from
Canada Post and my local Post Office did not receive any fro sale.
The following is a comparison between the original November 14th. stamp and the reprinted November 20th. booklet stamp.
The second of the three blue ink 'traffic lights' (the fifth traffic light from the top) is darker in the reprinted version than in the original stamp. As a result, the word 'HANOUKKA' and the third and sixth candles are darker in the reprinted version than in the original stamp.

As to the reason for the recall - Please forgive my lack of knowledge concerning the Jewish religion, but I wonder if the use of the Star of David in the original printing on the cover and in the traffic lights (ink colour dots) was offensive in some manner. For example, I've never seen a crucifix used as traffic lights on our 'Christian-based' Christmas stamps.
I do not want offend anyone for my second possible reason for the recall and apologize if this happens. Seeing the Star of David as a single item on the original cover, I was sadly reminded of the Nazi's requirement that all Jewish citizens wear a large yellow Star of David on their clothing to denote their religion.
In the single reprinted booklet that I purchased, there is a black ink spill on the position 1 stamp.
