Hey All,
Here's another oddity. This 19th century cover starts off from
Burgkundstadt, Bavaria on December 31, exact year unknown. There's a January 1st postmark on back from Leipzig. Another from the next day from Aachen. There's also a partial ship packet postmark dated January 19th before it heads eventually to Cincinnati, OH. I presume the blue 22 penned on front and back refers to payment in "franco". I'm not sure what that is.
The tricky part I'm really not sure about is the hand-drawn box at the upper left - "Pr preussichengeschl Post via Liverpool". Does "preussichengeschl" refer to Prussian Closed Mail? And if so, what is it? I can find other examples, but usually they are penned in English and I haven't seen it in German.
Thanks, Will
