Here is a beautiful stamp that I won last night. I paid under $30 for it. I guess no one saw it for what it is. It is plate position 7R1L, the choicest position on the plate. |

As soon as you posted this I panicked thinking I missed it in the auction that concluded last night, must have been a different auction :) I did however miss out on a nice example of 2L2 showing the big flaw but did manage to win a nice strip of 3 type IV's and a couple other nice items. Should receive them by Saturday or Monday and I'll post them up. Nice acquisition! |

Nice pickup Jaxom! Stallzer, I was the lucky winner of the 2L2...sorry. Was the strip of 3 IV's in the same auction? I was bidding on a strip on a cover on ebay but couldn't keep up with the bidding. Was feeling shut-out until I got the message this afternoon that I won the 2L2. |

Yes, the strip of 3 was the same auction. I also wanted the cover but it quickly passed what I was willing to put out for it. Congrats on the 2L2, it's a very nice piece. |

I see a rare 2L2 up for bidding but generally with a heavier cancel that takes away from the dramatic effect of the plate crack. This one was mint and piqued my interest.

Nice strip. I can never understand why they cut the top and bottoms so tight on their stamps.

I have difficulty understanding why they placed the stamps so close together that cutting between them took such great care to not trim off part of the remaining stamps on the sheet especially knowing the scissors of the day used were bulky. Kind of like your Social Security year-end statement that comes in the mail and you are supposed to tear along the perforation of the top and side of the envelope without tearing the statement. Anybody ever done that perfectly cleanly? |

TC&C had problems because the design was too large. Their presses were made for banknotes and were too short for a full stamp sheet. The size of the total sheet image was the maximum they could get on their press. They could not stretch it out further. |

Beautiful strip. I love the early color on Plate 1Late. December 1852 here, clearly. |

I received my 7R1L today. Here is a 1200 dpi scan. I could have hoped for more top border, but that would have drawn attention to it. It is still a nice copy. |

Here are two right margin stamps that I just acquired. Positions 60L1L and 80L1L, both with a nice portion of margin at right. |
