BTW, question to the US collectors. I have a sheet of Scott 2950 $1 in mint condition, cannot find any online, except blocks of 4 and singles. Tried some of the larger stamp companies, everyone is sold out.

What is the value of an entire mint, never hinged 2950's? I was going to post it today but I can't find a value. Maybe I will save it for another time :)

$2.00 above face. For the most part most modern mint U.S. stamps are not worth more than face unless there's a major error.

This one I just pulled out of a huge box of pounds of mint stamps still in the envelopes from the post office. What do you mean by removing them from their crystal sleeves? The ones in the books or the ones the post office puts them in? I am sorting this all out and then approaching a couple auction houses, they said to leave the books as is.

I wish I could show you all the enormous amount of material there is here. You haven't even seen 1/2 of a percent of it. I am still finding albums, I am getting down to the last 3 boxes and I am just stunned at what he has. If it goes to an auction house, I will certainly let you all know what it sold for.

Then there is this 52 pound bucket of old coins, 52 pounds of collectible coins! That is not counting the rolls and rolls of old coins still in their paper from the bank. And old prescription jars full of sorted coins! (He was a doctor/surgeon). I've never seen anything like it. Collectible dolls too! (His wife collected dolls, china, porcelain, crystal and jewelry. I have all of that as well! And it is all organized the same way-in boxes :) And boxes :) I don't think they did the boxes, I think someone else started boxing up all the collectibles, knowing what was coming.

If the stamps or coins make a decent chunk of money at auction, I have an entire house of antiques from all over, could keep me in business on ebay for the rest of my life. Trying to think all this out is the hardest part, I live in an antique store, literally. Where to start, I even have baseball cards! You name it, it is probably here.

I really want to sell the hundreds of pieces of china, the bulk of it is collectible plates. I need my kitchen cupboards back! I was told by Paul Royka of Antiques Roadshow that china and glassware is not selling (younger buying crowd doesn't want our old stuff!) and Paul doesn't do stamps (dang it), where does one start, wow. Don't really want to deal with selling plates online, don't want the hassle of shipping glass. Need a buyer for the china I think.

I remember going to the bank; handing over a dollar, and receiving a silver dollar in return. Those days are gone and so are the one dollar paper silver certificates as well.

Thank you about the information about the crystal sleeves, that must have been why Seigel's told me to leave them as is and take some photos of them in the books. I am learning so much just talking to you all about this hoard, thank you. It is fascinating, and right when I think I have seen everything, a new box always contains the odd, strange, and the 'what the heck is this thing" stuff.

I believe I am going to talk with H.R. Harmer (many thanks for the recommendation), since they are close and I suspect they will want this). I'm still sorting so I can give them an idea of what is here, suspect I will be driving it all over to them. They could make so many different kinds of lots out of all his foreign, Mint US, Mint international, covers, postcards, old stamp collecting supplies (I love a 2 piece magnifier I found), a lot of it is so old is it collectible as tools for stamp collecting. You name it, it is probably here, in duplicate.

Now that I have gotten through a lot of this (all those boxes I posted photos of), I realize this is a very valuable hoard of stamps, the bulk in excellent condition. Here is a question maybe someone knows, if they have done this. H.R. Harmer and some of the auction houses I have researched all charge a per hour fee to appraise, which is waved if they take the collection. What if they do not? Could it end up being thousands of dollars? This is going to take someone(s) a lot of time to properly research through. At $100 per hour per appraiser, ( H.R. Harmer), that could end up being a huge amount of money. I am hoping when I take it in that they can give me a quick idea of whether or not they will likely take it. They have seen so many estate hoards like this they must have a good idea just thumbing through some of it, am I correct in my thoughts here?

I love collectibles too. I started out in stamp collecting, still have my albums as well. I have collections of a lot of things, so much I want to keep but I need money right now to cover thousands in medical bills my insurance didn't cover. Didn't know I was trying to die :) Life, you never know what you are going to get!

I have collectibles in many areas, and I still root through thrift stores looking for more! Can't help it, I see something for pennies and I got to have it. I suspect many here can totally understand. Hobbies bring so much pleasure, can help pass the time when you are lonely, connect with people, I love it! I just have too much :)

Just last week I found this antique, heavy porcelain ball with beautiful patterns on it. No one knew what it was. I didn't know but I bought it for $5.

Found out it is an antique carpet ball (like huge marbles) that was a game people in Scotland started in the Victorian era. They came in sets of 12 with a white cue ball. People collect them as they are so beautiful, and this thing is worth over $100, maybe more. I am keeping it, I love it, I love marbles and this is the biggest marble ever!

Carpet balls-who knew? I wonder if they are on Scottish Stamps? Anyone?

Hoping you are feeling better, now that Thanksgiving is over. I know how you feel, and wish your health improves enough for you to become an active, happy stamper again. I think you are half-way there already! :-)

Regarding stamps and selling online (I used to sell around 15-20 years ago, but mostly just buy now) I know lots of collectors will "group" similar items together on black Vario pages (go to Amazon, they are about 60 cents each when you buy a 25-pack). It makes it easy to scan or photograph, they look great too. Scanners are available for less than $50 and are easier and much faster than smartphone pics. Set the resolution higher forgetter singles, lower for, say, mint US sheets or covers or pages of cheaper stamps.

You can generate more interest when, for example, you group US plate blocks (stamps with numbers in the corner margins) together. Or, say, used 19th century US stamps. For better material people like to see the reverse so if you take two pictures, one with the same stamps backwards, you save yourself aggravation later.

Starting bids for entire pages (rather than a block or single stamps) are higher, and you don't need to send the 8.5" x 11" Vario page (just note that in your description). so your shipping costs gown down. Makes that mountain of material go down a little faster!

Just keep your lots reasonably small, easily found and organized by you so you can ship them FAST when you sell them, and, like I did, only sell items up to, say $50 or $100 first. Remember ebay favors the BUYER and almost always it's the SELLER who is wrong in ebay's view in case of any dispute.
