Hi There, I have a bunch of the Cameo issues of stamps including a range of plate blocks and other configurations.

The previous owner of the collection has stored 16 blocks of the red 4 cents Cameo stamps separately on black paper and each in a protective stamp cover. I suspect that these stamps are all Winnipeg tagged but I don't have an ultra violet lamp to check.

They are marked them "E86TB", "E86TC", "E86T" & "E86TE". Can anyone decipher these "codes' for me?? Thank you.

p.s. See example below which looks like it has 2 wide tags on either side of the stamp.

Do you have a mm ruler? Might be width of the tagging.

Hmm, You mean 8.6 mm's? That would be about right...

I found another set of 4 blocks marked E86TC and noted:
#404 pii-tag, Winnipeg wide bar August 1964
Darnell Cat #458Pb

So does that give a clue what the other E86T's are?

Those are Bileski catalogue numbers.

See his book: "The Canada Basic Catalogue 3rd Edition 1965-1967", by K. Bileski.

E86 refers to the 4c Cameo. He then describes 5 different types of tagging on this stamp (A through E).

A subsequent Bileski catalogue ("Canadian Postage Stamps 1953-1974") has these stamp re-numbered. The 4c Cameo is now E89, with the tagged stamps numbered as W9 through W13.
