I was told that the 14½ x 14 perforation is the scarcer one. And with the specimen I would need to compare any I may come across to see the difference.

It seems I placed them in the wrong area, with my eyesight counting perfs is getting a little too difficult, there is a powerful desk magnifier I intend to buy which should remedy the problem.

Regardless of that mistake you have noticed the difference in perfs.

Hi Rob

Was just checking and when I can not find my perf gauge I resort to counting perfs which I fully agree is almost impossible as we get older.

I did think I had something for a bit.lol

It is so nice to have all your info on these Philas House Cards Rob. I really appreciate it all thank you.

Thanks KGV Collector. Age can be a curse to the stamp collector, especially when counting perfs is concerned, on top of that difficulty, I'm also partially colourblind, cannot identify mixed colours, now that is a conundrum, considering I rely on a good eye to identify shades for my collection.

My fiancee is an artist and identifying colour is important, so I use her as my colour expert, and it works (she is from the Ukraine so if some-one asks to identify and translate a Ukrainian or Russian stamp, she helps identify them).

Hi YeaPolska

That is a nice £1 specimen, and that "toning" is foxing (rust). Rust on stamps is airborne and can eventually affect other stamps in the collection.

Thanks Ausie Al, I'll get in touch with him. Also, that's the most 'roo specimen sets and shades I've seen in a collection.

Training stamps are commercial stamps that have been hand cancelled with "CANCELLED SPECIMEN ONLY" & "SPECIMEN ONLY", they were used between 1967 and early 1968 to teach postal workers to understand the new decimal currency postal rate.

These overprints were added to the postage stamps by a coarsely made rubber stamp, the 30 cent Waratah stamp seems to have the overprint done in pen.

Although these stamps were never meant to see the light of day outside the post office, they have frequently found their way into the hands of collectors.

Queen Elizabeth II

Native Flowers

Native Birds

Marine Life

Even though I was told it is a nearly completed set, I have no idea what the remainder is, though all that needs to be done is to see which stamps are not included in this set from dealers that may have some.

Unfortunately, the stamp dealers in close proximity (Sydney CBD and Blacktown) do not stock any, and the stamp specialist I bought these from, said that was all he had, and these came as is from a collection he bought.

All stamps are MUH, if you know of a stamp dealer who sells these type of stamps, please let me know.

In case you haven't seen it, there is a thread on "World Modern" regarding similar stamps used by the British Post Office at its training school. In that case, the stamps have vertical black bars overprinted on them.

Thanks, I just read that thread, I don't have any British training stamps, wish I did. At least the Aussie training stamps will not be confiscated.

Thanks for the info, any help as to what I should do would be greatly appreciated. The gum is fully there, one hinge remnant, although if I have to sacrifice the gum for the sake of the stamp I will.
