Past Collector And New Member To The Site

Hello Everyone - I was a collector in my teens and early 20's but it's been over 20 years since I opened up my collection. I was a collector of US stamps when I was active so do not know much about stamps for other countries.

I picked up a Scott Publications "The International Postage Stamp Album" Junior Edition from 1943 at an auction recently and was lucky enough to find a large number of international stamps from the late 1800's to the 1920's. It contains a good mix of unused and used stamps with some from the mid 1800's as well.

My curiosity is peaked so now I'm digging for information and attempting to see if I have anything of value. I appreciate any information that will help as I start my search. If a certain country or two are particularly valuable, that information would greatly help!

I've picked up a couple of old albums over the years and it does, indeed, pique one's interest--sometimes even providing that extra spark needed to get back to active collecting. What great fun it would be to page through such an old album as the one you just scored!

One of the old albums I picked up, a 1967 Sott's American album, has since become the home of all my classic US stamps. There's just something about old stamps in an old album that looks so right.

1943 was just before the end of WWII, might have been someone wealthy just traveling 'round the world for fun (this was just 4 years after Amelia Earhart was legally declared dead) or keeping in contact with their son in the war and collecting the stamps on the side as well. Could be some good wartime stamps in there!
