Kuk Militar Post Question And Please Help ID Another Stamp I Can't Read

Hello again,

I have run into two stamps tonight that I cannot id properly. The first is a Kuk Militar Post stamp, here:

I have found the stamp on the internet, I know some stuff about it from this page here:

This page gives some great information on the stamp, but I would like to look it up in Scott, I have tried Austria, Hungary, and even "K" for KUK just in case but cannot figure out where it might be listed. So I search the forum and a similar stamp (posted by Rod222) was listed in the tread for stamps with no country - is there a catalog entry for this stamp in Scott?

Here is the second "problem" stamp tonight, I have an old sheet of country names from an old stamp packet, but this stamps name is not on it and since I cannot key in those characters I must ask for help, oh, and did do an image search for it as well:


This one I am guessing might be Ethiopia, but am unsure - can anyone help me with this one? Thank you very much!

K.u.K stands for Kaiserliche und Konigliche and was used by the Austrian postal authorities. Try to look under the Occupation stamps for that green stamp.

The second stamp is from Bulgaria.

In Scott these two are:

Bosnia and Herzegovina #68 from 1912-14

Bulgaria #94 from 1911

Scott puts the first stamp under Bosnia & Herzegovina. That was under Austria-Hungarian rule at the time of this issue. Typical inscription for the country's stamp along with BOSNIEN HERCEGOVINA. You'll run across more of these, I'm sure.

The stamp says "Bulgaria" in Cyrillic letters at the bottom in the middle.

There's a good country identifier at the end of the Scott catalogue which shows lots of examples of stamps which either have no country name or have it in a different alphabet or script.

I'd recommend spending a little time getting familiar with the Cyrillic and Greek alphabets so you can recognise them when you see them. You can then look for them in the Scott identifier.

As well as the country name, another hint to a stamp's origin is the currency. In the case of the Bulgarian stamp "ct" = stotinki. It all starts accumulating in the grey cells after a while.

These Bosnia & Herzegovina stamps were later overprinted for use in the areas that Austria occupied in WWI amongst which was the Southern part of Poland. Polish collectors look for these with Polish cancellations, in this case the town of Piotrkow.

And thank you 22crows for the great link - I will use it in the future as there are more stamps that I will have trouble with I am sure. I hate to have to run and post in this forum all the time when I can't identify something, but am grateful that I can at the same time. You all rock! Thank you all soooo much!
