Is This Turkey Sc#47 A5 25pi Dull Rose - Or Have I Mis-Identified It?

Thank you mdroth for responding to my question about the overprint on the stamp - I was left confused about that and now I understand that the denomination portion of the overprint just spells out the numeric denomination in arabic. And also for verifying that I had identified the stamp in the auction also.

You live in Turkey and have a gorgeous set of 46 & 47, your stamps are very nice - I suppose you acquired your set while overseas? As you said, these would rare here in the US - was it hard for you to find your exquisite examples of these stamps even over there? I would be interested to know if you care to share about it.

Those are not my stamps - that is a picture from the isfila catalog. Not only do I not have those 2 stamps - I've only seen them offered for sale a couple times. They are exceptionally rare. The main reason for this is that those two stamps were never issued - there was a small quantity printed, but the postal administration - for whatever reason - prob because they were high denominations and were not in great demand - decided not to release them for sale. So the number that survived was very small...

I've built my collection both here & in the US - but those 2 stamps are hard to find anywhere!

Wow mdroth, thank you for explaining why these stamps are so rare. I am fascinated by it. You are so lucky to have built your collection overseas and in the US, I'll bet you have some very interesting stamps because of your travels. I wish I had found stamps so much earlier in my life, it would have brought me solace through many a rough time, but I have fond the hobby a little later in life and am able to concentrate on it in peace.
