What would you pay for an example such as this one?

Nothing, but then again I avoid the Narcotic revenues simply because I know I'm out of my depth with them and there are so many fakes out there. Too dangerous of a minefield if you don't know what you're doing...

They're no trickier than any other area.

You just need a good reference guide.

Which should be available soon...

I agree that this is far too much to pay for a philatelic creation. The blue 1919 proprietaries with the three line Seattle handstamp are the only ones I have seen that I consider legitimate and even those many have been created by the local district collector's office for stamp collectors. There are some with a cancel with a registration number "No. 213" without the Narcotic identification that probably were used on narcotic preparations.

To Dan - if you stick with used narcotic stamps with identifiable pharmaceutical cancels, the early provisional material is not too difficult. Lacking that I tend to avoid the styles of overprints where only mint stamps have been seen.

The company provisionals are a very difficult area because of their rarity.
