ebay listing of a philatelic forgery although it not listed as a forgery. But there are no returns and it is being sold strictly as is!

There are no genuine provisional handstamps recorded in blue.

I can't get up in arms about this listing.

1. The seller states "I believe this is a philatelic forgery" in the description.

2. He's starting it at $0.99 and letting the market determine its value, if any.

It looks like the description was revised, so the mention of it being a forgery may not have originally been there.

Truthfully 99 cents is already too much for it, even without the $1 shipping.

I wrote to the seller and told him it is a philatelic forgery. Subsequently he added that to the description. A plus in my books.

In fact, many of the sellers to whom I write thank me for the disclosure. so there are a lot of sellers who just are not very knowledgable and wish not to get a bad reputation.

Well, that's a waste of at least $70.

His mention of "philatelic forgery" is in small letters well down from the image; the main listing still said "US stamp scott RJA24 Narcotic blue overprint used cv 1750.00". So I would not be quick to praise him for it, it was more like a CYA mention in case someone gets a cert on it.

Well, even fakes are worth a little something.

I bid $25 on it, just to get it off the market.

But someone apparently got hypnotized by that "cv 1750" in the listing, like you said.

Actually, several someones...

I never bid on it to get it off the market, but my bid would have been in the neighborhood of the final bid divided by 10.

That is a lot of money for a fake overprint.
