According to the Annual Report of the Director of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing For the Fiscal Year Ended June 30, 1919, Government Printing Office, 1919, page 46, 10,000 copies of all four sizes of the violet narcotic strip stamps were overprinted "Porto Rico."

Does anyone happen to have an example of these stamps?

If so, could an image be posted here please?

Thanks.

Jim

No, but I can probably whip one up real quick. I've got a rubber stamp set around here somewhere...

Hey, it seems to work for a lot of sellers on ebay these days.

I don't think a rubber stamp would do it. By 1920 they would have had a printed o/p similar to the bureau narcotic stamps.

Dan,

I do not think that the current ebay sellers are producing the rubber handstamped narcotic forgeries. I think that many of those were produced in the 1920's. There was another wave of those productions circa 1950. And, yes, the late Dick Walla was busy producing them in the 1980's. There are plenty of all of these out there that producing another batch is totally unnecessary.

This is what the later Porto Rico narcotic stamps looked like, circa 1952.

Dick Walla fakes are usually easy to spot, the N was actually a Z turned on it's side.

You mean these?

Looks like a sideways "Z" to me.

Those are the ones. He had them mixed throughout his collection, which made it easy to almost miss the genuine rarities he had like RJA26 and RJA27.
