It appears to me that this stamp is Scott #51. It has the horizontal laid lines in the paper but the printing, especially the center just looks like a crude fake. IF my identification is correct this stamp has a catalog value of .50˘, so why would someone fake such a cheap stamp. Or is this just the way they were printed? I was under the impression there was a higher level of detail (like the 2nd stamp).

Hi stallzer,

I'm pretty sure it genuine but it's Sc. #36 without the thunderbolts.

My copies vary and some of them look like this.

My copies of Sc. #51 look sharper.
