Counterfeit Stamps In My Collection

Not sure I understand what you are telling me. I have no money invested in this issue. I traded a half dozen common commemoratives for them. Do you have a suggestion as to what I should do?

You traded 6 essentially worthless commemoratives for a purported set of blue papers? You did not contemplate why someone would be willing to give up a blue paper set for nothing in return? This is very confusing.

He didn't know what he had nor did I. The paper is definitely the bluish gray. Frankly, I didn't even notice that until I looked closely at them when I got home. Didn't even know the significance of the blue paper. I had to google it to learn why it was blue.

I would add that simply adjusting the color-tint on a scan and voila, you have a rare, blue-paper stamp! ebay is not the place to buy these rare-paper issues; you are just as likely to find a "genuine" Picasso on ebay as well.

Agreed... anybody buying an uncerted bluish paper (other than 1 & 2 ct) at the typical ebay "discounted price" and thinks they're getting anything worth north of $1, probably has their head in the sand. Our friends at Anthony's sell one or more of these at a discounted price weekly, and I think our discussion of this firm on another thread should make that statement self-explanatory. These are rare stamps, and with few exceptions, will you find them deeply discounted....caveat emptor

The other "red flag" with your alleged bluish paper set is that they are postally used. Postally used examples of the higher denomination bluish papers are very RARE indeed, and the likelihood of happenstancing on a complete set is slim to none. Merry Christmas to all! -Rob L.

Thanks for all the comments. As I said in my original post, the stamps have been judged as counterfeit by a couple of experts. I have never had any illusion that they are genuine. All I am trying to find out is if there is a market for counterfeit issues and how to contact that market.

These have no value to anyone. Historical counterfeits by the likes of Sperati are collectible.

Hi Oneputt89, I guess finding that you have got a counterfeit number of examples comes with the territory unfortunately. I myself thought I had hit the jackpot when I bought a nice example of a Deutche Post Audrey Hepburn stamp which came out in 2001 or so I think. It was part of a series of Film Star stamps they did.Sean Heburn Ferrer (Audreys son) objected to the stamp because it depicts her smoking a cigarette from Breakfast at Tiffanys film and she died of cancer. Deutche Post destroyed most of the stamps but a few escaped (unofficial)into circulation.About 6 examples have surfaced so far and are worth a lot of money. The real stamp has 31 perfs,mine has less than that,however, I still like it, the quality of printing is very good so its easy to be fooled. I guess that you could always do a quick google to see if your stamps fit the correct profile of size, perfs etc. Hope this is helpful. Revdoc.

Post Script to Audrey Hepburn stamps.....Check your German Kiloware stamps...a couple of the real gems have turned up in Kiloware. Revdoc
