Wanted To Introduce Myself

I have been collecting for over 50 years. I call myself a collector not a philatelist, since I have not carefully studied printing methods and other details of the hobby. I collect mainly mint US, Nederland and UN (NY) stamps. My collection stops at 1980. After that time I feel that the US began printing too many stamps for "collectors" rather than to be used for postal purposes.

A few years ago, my wife gave me the Lindner USA album (No. 512). I am reasonably pleased with it. The quality is outstanding, but there are a few problems. One is that there is no room for coil pairs. Another is that there is no reference to Scott numbers on any of the pages (nor any other catalog for that matter). Another is that regular issues, airmail and commemorative issues are grouped together and are not always chronological. But the quality and other features of the album are great.

I do have one question. Does anyone have a listing of the Scott numbers on each page of this album? Or is that something not legal since Lindner did not purchase rights to the Scott numbers?

I think you are correct, album publishers have to be licensed to use Scott numbers. Adding them yourself is a solution but I am unsure if anyone here has a list (folks probably just penciled them under each stamp on the album pages).

Welcome! Yes, most album creators do not pay to license the numbers. I have not seen the album but they may have the issues in general order.

For early US, this is likely the case since the groupings usually map to catalog order.

Hi Phil, it should not be a major undertaking to add the Scott identifier to the backing page, under or in the case of Lindner, behind the stamps. I maintain a separate checklist broken down by each page of the Lindner albums, listed in Scott numbers....albeit there will be the odd stamp that does not have a Scott number for Scandinavian stamps, but the US albums are most likely all covered by Scott since it is the standard catalog for the US.
