I'm not sufficiently adept at plating early U.S. stamps yet and would like some help, if anyone feels up to it. I have a chance to pick this up, but thought I'd ask the experts here first.

Questions are:
- Is this Scott 9?
- What position/plate might it be?
- Any concerns?

Thanks for any help I get. Here's the stamp, front and back.

53R1L?

I used Jaxom100 new guide dot diagram to narrow down to 2 positions by looking at guide dot upper right belonging to stamp above

I annotated with arrows some of the markings in case you are interested.

I like this stuff so I find stamps like this Scott 9 great.

It is recut once top and once bottom. It appears to be a quality stamp, although right border a little shaggy. I'm not sure what the Roman numeral III on back refers to. Its definitely not a type III

note double recut bottom of stamp ABOVE this one.

note the split top line recut that bulges up over the P of Postage

note dash lower left

I think Rgstamp is right on with 53R1L. You can plate it from the remainder of 43R1L, guide dot, double recut and the blur of ink that I indicated in the photos would make it unique.

ps: I am glad my charts are being useful.
pss: to answer your other questions, it is Scott #9. The stamp looks sound with no tears or thins. It is Relief "A".
