I'm new to plating, so I still have much to learn. However, I noticed in both the Carroll Chase scans from the Smithsonian and the scans at the Stamp Smarter website, that 7R1e has a small mark between the upper right diamond block and the label block.

I then found this stamp in my collection with what looked like the same mark. Is this unique to 7R1e? Below is a scan of my stamp and a close up of the mark in question. It's a little faded. Also, the black and white is from Carroll Chase's scan.

You image is not great, at least on my monitor but I do see what looks like the double transfer of 7R1e. You stamp does have a worn appearance for an early plate 1 stamp but... the mark you high lite and the similar mark on the left side, between block and label, combined with mark in the right side of the U, is a lot of evidence in favor of 7R1e

Thanks, Stampcrow. I agree that the stamp shows wear that I wouldn't expect for plate 1e. However, the other characteristics are lining up.

Stamp Smarter has an excellent image of 7R1e.
