I am in the process of creating a series of album pages for these and am in need of some assistance from those of you who collect these things.
In researching images of the various booklet panes, I have found that most of the regular issue panes have a vertical orientation. However, I also discovered a few (like 115c) that appear in both a horizontal and a vertical orientation.

1) Is this a common occurrence, especially with handmade panes?

2) Are you aware of any others that can exist in both orientations?

Likewise, some panes exist only horizontal; 31c and 32c, 102a, 163a, and the 3 air post panes (C48a-C50a).

3) Has anyone seen any of these in a vertical orientation?

I also need someone who has some of the early (prior to 1932) Portrait panes to please measure the height and width in millimeters for me. I need an example for both the common vertical and the less common horizontal pane. They are just too expensive (minimum $500) for me to purchase just to ascertain the needed frame dimensions. I have examples from 1932 and later in my collection.

Thank you.

1) Of course it is, especially when normal stamp sheets are used to make the booklets. So you will have different orientation of panes (staples/stitching on different sides) relative to stamp designs and the cover orientation.

2) These are already known and listed; 117a, 117b for example.

3) There are no "secret" booklets or booklet panes for Canal Zone.

If you are this specialized, may I suggest you borrow or buy a copy of Canal Zone Stamps by Plass/Brewster/Salz, published by the Canal Zone Study Group? It's no longer available direct.
