My grand parents were collectors. They collected stamps, coins, China dolls and little weird status when I was little I thought they were mad!!

My granddad use to love collecting stamps he knew all about the history and he really was amazing!
20 years ago I was given my first stamp and shortly after I inherited a majority of the stamps. I won't lie I've also brought stamps to add to the collection but I'm not sure if I'm doing it right or if there worth anything... so I've taken some pictures from one of the albums. I hope to be educated...

Gettinflexi, I do not have time to go over these but I think you have the start of a nice collection. Part of the value of this collection is the fact that it belonged to your grandfather. I trust some folks will ring in when they spot something of interest.

I concur, nothing jumps out as being rare but a good start on a collection. The biggest question in my mind is if you try to retain the original album (with the work that your grandfather did) or moved them to a new album.

I've kept it all in the original albums but I've also added some in and taken some out.. there are so many pages so I think I will take photos of them by country. Happy new year to you all and I look forward to adding more to this.

It's always worth having a look at the plate numbers on the QV 1d reds - some are more scarce than others and you just never know





The numbers read up and down on both sides of the stamp, about where the green arrows point to.

Plate position is also interesting on the penny reds. You can determine plate position by the letters in the corners.

On all your stamps, you can look them up at the library or else Goggle them.

Thank you all so much for the help,although I don't know what you mean, I will get them out today and have a look. I've also found Herm stamps with price over printed I'm really curious about these, I will post the picture of it now.

They aren't misprinted, they're overprinted, presumably to reflect the change to decimal currency. Herm stamps aren't official postage stamps (and thus they aren't listed in mainstream catalogues). They're what collectors usually call "Cinderellas". That doesn't mean some don't like them or collect them -
