To avoid confusion over the term "mint" for their overseas buyers Sandafayre defines "mint" as having been previously hinged. The "mounted mint" explanation is also interesting.

It's one of those vocabulary differences that illustrates just how much the UK and the USA are two nations divided by a common language :)

Unmounted Mint = Mint Never Hinged
Mint or Mounted Mint = Hinged with Gum
Unused = Uncancelled with No Gum

I just noticed this ebay listing for "Mint NH" stamps: https://www.ebay.com/itm/JM-14D-9-U...332493955125

But the description says, "9 EARLY US STAMPS IN UNUSED CONDITION - MOST, IF NOT ALL SHOW SIGNS OF BEING PREVIOUSLY HINGED (NO REMINANTS REMAIN)." (I'm not shouting here; the original item description is.)

So what is "NH" supposed to mean? There aren't any hinges on them right now?

erilaz,

I have seen that before too. I've always thought it was vendors who "copy/paste" their listings. We've got to watch them carefully.

Looking at that listing, these are stamps from the 1920's. Not exactly what I would call "early" U.S. stamps. There's more than just the problem with NH with this listing.
