See if you can find the two better stamps in this otherwise ordinary lot.

I'm sure that the seller could have gotten much more than <10% of catalog, if they were identified correctly.

The caned fruit stamp is pretty good with a cat of $2500. and Dr Jayne 2c perf and die cut variety get my vote.

The buyer got something of a bargain, but not as much as one might think. The Kensett is probably about a $500 stamp (although most are damaged, this one has thins, tears, and a hole). Pretty much everything else is damaged, often seriously. The Jaynes has a facial scrape (anything which removes part of the design is a more serious fault). So a nice buy.

Yeah, I was the underbidder.

Unfortunately someone else saw the two items too.

Otherwise I would have had at least a space filler.

I would not call the Kensett a space filler since so may are damaged fairly seriously. This is probably average for a damaged example. There are a few super nice examples probably worth double cat, and all the others.

Yes the canned fruit is more than a spacefiller. $500 and they do show up fairly often for sale for such a scarce stamp.
