My Christmas present came late this year I guess. I was fortunate to purchase a very nice accumulation of (mostly) first issue revs on document last night. It will take quite a while to go through them all, but I'll begin posting some today. Enjoy!

First a few of the illegal usages for Dan:

Nice revenues! Where'd you find this lot?

I was able to purchase all the revenues from a very large mostly cover accumulation which recently was found here in western North Carolina. It's been off market for 25+ years.

Alas, the #26 is questionable at best. It is an overpayment of a 2 cent rate to start with. It is also untied, with a cancel that does not match anything else on the document.
The others are very nice. The $1.30 is a lovely solo use paying a proper rate, a fairly scarce usage.

Guess I should have uploaded the back. The punch is tied.

I agree with Bart; the #26 doesn't look right. I would expect it to have a manuscript cancel not just a punch, and more importantly the size and type of punch is different from the others used on the document. Too bad, as illegal usages of demonetized postage stamps are quite scarce. I only have a few examples.

I did a doubletake on the R77c as initially I thought it was an R77a, and thought WOW!

Even so, solo (actually any) usages of R77c on document are not common. The R79c is a nice usage as well.

Do any of the bills of exchange have non-U.S. revenues also affixed? Those are fun to try to track down.

The punch does not tie the stamp. There is clearly some document paper between the punch hole and the stamp. Someone simply used a damaged stamp near the hole. And people were not spending more then they had to on taxes in those days when a penny was real money.

Hi Dan - I do not think so although I have not had time to inspect the backs of the 90+ bills of exchange of that type in this hoard. All are perforated 1865 - 1868.
