postmasterGS ----Thanks for that information. As you know my German is almost zilch [I took the translation from Google]. It sounds like you got the stamp monthly and took it to a bookstore or a news stand and got your newspaper. They call that a subscription ? Can you explain how it was used if different than what I posted .

I'm not 100% sure, but I think that's about right. Upon paying the monthly subscription rate, a stamp was attached to a booklet. What I'm not clear on was whether the booklet was prsented to a vendor to received the daily paper, or was shown to the delivery person.
