The first is, I believe, Sc 237 but this is overprinted. The next item is similar to Sc 111 but is not perf 12/13.5. It appears to be imperf on three sides, the fourth side is 13.5. Is this 111?
Many thanks for any help

Thanks to Perf 12 for linking,
this may be a bit easier for you.

The Sc#111 is an interesting piece, not seen it before.
It may be a fragment from postal stationery? Newspaper wrapper.
Unfortunately, I am not experienced enough to confirm, but I shall do some research.

These are typical for Newspaper wrappers, the paper is a type of "carton brown" whilst yours appears to be whitish paper ?

Thanks for all your responses. Most useful.
I do not think the Sc 111(?) item can be from a postal stationary item as there is evidence of perf circa 13.5 along the top margin.

Hi Maero8,

I'm not convinced by the apparent perfs. I think rather it's a rough tear and our brains see this as part of a regular perf pattern.

I agree with Rod that the stamp has been cut from a 1901 wrapper (H&G E3).

This stamp was not used on letter cards (which otherwise would have been one way to get perforations at the top but with thicker paper.)

Hi Rod,

H&G describe the paper as "oiled".

It looks to me like greaseproof paper, not so different from glassine.

Right.
That makes a lot of sense, I have come across fragments before with this "feel" , so that explains it.

PS: Like your new avatar, very eye catching.

Thanks Rod! It's one of my favourite items.

It's a letter seal from the Austro-Hungarian consulate in Chania in Crete.
