hello! I have found a stamp that I want to have your oppinione on! I will showe you the original and then my stamp whitsh is different!so my stamp the beutiful lady of new zealand stands the in opposit direktions so it most be mirrrored some howe maybe you have som better word for it!in the original you se the lady standing in front forward and in my thje ather direktion!and before you commment this look att the velvet dress on mine it goes half way on the legs and the hair its totaly the ather way!okey give me your ide of this

The stamps you show are a highly specialized area of study with many different printings and types . If you GOOGLE the words "NEW ZEALAND Universal Penny Postage " I knew a fellow years ago who knows these stamps and is the world expert on them .

I think what you are seeing is an optical illusion, caused by the placement of the cancellation. She is facing the same way as the first stamp.

Agree with both responses above.This is a stamps for specialists (I don't count myself as one) and it is the same basic design in both stamps.

Your first stamp is from the later typo printing in 1908. A later printing of 1909 added "Dominion of" above the country name New Zealand.

The second stamp is was recess printed from 1901, 1902, 1904, 1905 or 1906.

Several different companies made the plates for these stamps. There is also a variety of watermarks, perforations and paper types which makes identification quite difficult.

The following images show a much simplified album layout for the earlier printings and a couple of examples from the 1909 which, apart from the country name is very similar to the 1908 issue.

My apologies. Both of your stamps are from the earlier recess printings. in the 1908 printing, the engraving lines on the globe are diagonal rather than vertical and there are changes to the rosettes in the upper corners.
