I bought a nice French collection from Ken Relya for my Big Blue, and ran across these two. They are both definitely Type II. The image of stamp on the right is not nearly as blue as it looks in hand. I've looked at a few of the #87's on ebay for sale, and it looks dead spot on.

I'm mostly a US 1c 1857 and 3c 1861 specialist, but started my BB early last year-- I'm almost at 15,000 and growing. So, I'm an advanced US guy, but not World, yet.

My thoughts are that I may send this one for a cert. Any opinions if the one on the right could be #87? As listed in Scott, it is also off-center as one would expect a #87 to be.

Thanks, Ray

Now that I look at the image, it also looks like maybe it's been reperfed on the right side. So maybe it was also dyed?

Just some additional thoughts. Thanks again, Ray

I don't know Scott, but is your hope that this is the 1c Prussian blue? If so, it looks way off on my screen

Geoff, in hand it's much darker and bluer than in the scan.
Looks very much like the image you posted.

Close enough that I'll send this one off. It isn't lilac like the one on the left at all.

But the image from Regency is similar to those I found on a quick ebay search.

Thanks for the response-- take care, Ray

perf12-- thanks so much for your help here. I don't speak French, but can probably go through Google for translation.

Everyone dreams for sure, but I've been at this a long time, just not the world.....long enough to know that a rarity is a rarity, and they don't grow on trees!

We see this stuff on the US classics topic all the time-- is the #65 pink? I have enough pink's because I've read and researched and have put in the work. So it's reference material like this that is very valuable and important to all who are learning!

Appreciate everyone's help, Ray
