Hello,

I want to share these three interesting cancellations I found. As it's the first time I see those kind of cancellations I would like to ask:

- does "Trip" mean that it was cancelled during any transportion, and which type then?
- was "Paid" the same use as with the 1850/60 stamps? I never saw a Paid cancel after the bank note era.
- is the Niagara Falls some kind of souvenir or ferry cancel, or just a normal town cancel?

(PS: the fold on the 210 looks a bit like a preprint paper fold under loupe to me.)

I'm not sure about the PAID cancel, but suspect it is normal, probably an old canceller pressed into use. The TRIP is from a Railway Post Office and would have been followed by a number indicating the direction. The Niagara Falls is a normal cancel from Niagara Falls, New York.

I'll wager the PAID cancel is from some document, and the stamp was used as a revenue.

The Philadelphia "PAID" marking was used on foreign destination mail. the Pittsburgh marking is from the Pittsburg Streetcar RPO. Niagara Falls is the normal town cancel for the period.

thank you all.

there is a 3 after "Trip", but I guess we can't figure out which trip exactly then?

about the "Paid" - was that cancel a standard, so can we assume foreign mail when we see such a Philadelphia cancel?

The early Pittsburgh streetcar markings occur with trip numbers 1 to 8. So it's trip 3. There may be some data in the Pittsburgh streetcar monograph, or in the MPOS journal, about the time of day that trip correlates to.

It's a nice stamp. A shame that it is off cover, because it was likely on a foreign destination item as well (or a double rate cover).

thank you again. yes, while it's not perfectly centered, the paper and color are really fresh and "like new". Also the cancel says nearly everything that he can. Thanks to your answers I know now where I can find our more.
