Daniel Kelleher sold a mint example, rebacked and with a vertical crease, for US$2200 in their sale 692 in 2016. In the same sale they sold a mint no gum with added right margin for US$3500. These amounts are exclusive of buyers premium.
The example you show was sold by Siegel in December 2015 for US$1700 + premium.
I found this searching for completed listings on Stamp Auction Network. Even if you don't bid there is a rich vein of information there!

They were never issued to the public as valid postage - the government objected to the postmaster's vanity putting his own image on the stamp. From a philatelic perspective they are all pre-production material and serve as eye candy for appropriate exhibits.
With patience, you will find one far nicer than that ugly dog you posted for well under $5000. |

City Stamp Montreal had two copies last year and is probably the best place to try to find one quickly. You will be lucky to find a decent copy for less than $7,500. His asking price was higher than that as I recollect. There are lots of proofs around but the price for those is rising. |

City Stamp Montreal may have a copy that isn't listed on ebay right now. If you want one badly, I'd give him a call. I find his prices very high but he has a lot of great material and sometimes he's negotiable. At this price point, make sure anything you buy has an unqualified VGG cert. which he usually has. Another option might be Canada Stamp Finder. While not an expert on this issue, I've seen several specimens and none were in VF condition - I suspect a really good copy is going to be pricey. audetnelson1 - hope you have an understanding wife/(or husband)! I could probably afford one of these but it might cost me a lot more than the money. I own one proof and that might be it for me. |

SPARKS AUCTION on today and tomorrow had a brilliant selection of provinces stuff including full panes of PEI. And item number 543 was a 5 cent #5P brown Connell plate proof showing UNITRADE valuation at $300. Check prices realized on Stamp Auction Newwork. |

How did it get a full Scott number 5 when it wasn't sold at the post office? It was prepared but not issued. An essay of sorts. |
