I ran across this cover at Heritage auctions within a baseball card themed sale. It is so obviously faked and doctored. HA even noted in the description that the Wagner signatures can be clipped, but from what I'm seeing with the rest of the envelope, even the signatures are dubious.

The circular datestamps are painted on. If this is an authentic cover mailed by Wagner, why would anyone need to paint the postmarks on with a pen?

The back is weird too. It's addressed again on the reverse, with no stamps. I would imagine someone would do that if they wrote the wrong address, crossed out the bad one, and flipped the envelope over. But they wrote the same address, twice. The cover was sold as "twice signed" by Wagner.

What's interesting is the Postage Due stamp on the front. The first class rate back then was 3 cents. If Wagner mailed it with no stamps, the stamp would make sense, but why the need for the fake hand drawn datestamps?!

Clearly not genuine. Some covers actually signed by Wagner:

There's no end to the greed which breeds this kind of stupidity.

I seem to recall "autographing" pictures of footballers when I was a small boy - this appears to be at a similar level!

It is rather childishly done. I am with GeoffHa on his thinking.
