Floortrader, great piece. And same here, I had never heard of this country(?) either. May I make one small suggestion? Please check the word "settled" in the last sentence,

It will be interesting to see where Sedang ends up among philatelists. They've generally been regarded as bogus since day one, but there are some writers who make the case that the very first printing, from 1888, saw some usage on mail.
What almost everyone sees, and has, are 1889 printings, which were late to the party.
Anyway, they are not expensive, and look good, so I didn't mind picking some up. I think they have a place in the history of stamp collecting, if nothing else. |

Interesting story, nice items. Not sure I will put them on my Dead Country list just yet.

floortrader - an excellent idea to show hard to find ASFE items. No matter if really postal or artistamps, which serve as spacefillers. Sedang is not on the ASFE 780 Stamps Issuing Entities Updated List |

Not exactly post-1940, but nice stamps all round. Thanks. Especially like the French Indo-China stamps as I have a soft spot for colonial "key" values. |

TIM ----Your right but hoping THE STAMP COMMUNITY makes a new section with a ASFE section because there is clearly a trend and interest in this area of collecting because it will contain both pre and post 1940 material . Just a side note this page shows up as the second item on GOOGLE for people searching - A Stamp from Everywhere or ASFE .
DCSTAMPS ---Nice stamps like that one with the S-O-N cancel . |

Thanks, The Cochin China cancel is one of my favorites.
By the way, I have begin looking through the ASFE list, and find it quite confusing with many inconsistencies. I also don't understand the order. Sometimes it seems alphabetical, but not.
I will comment in more detail on the ASFE thread. |

DC Stamps Quote: Sometimes it seems alphabetical, but not. 780 ASFE list is strictly alphabetical, but in Czech. Hence different from English (and Slovak, too). For instance Idar = Ajdar, Greece = Recko, etc. So the numbering is constant, just I translated the Czech names back to original ones. So Greece is Hellas in the list (pos. 131). More explanation in the ASFE thread. |

Here is a stamp missing from all ASFE collections and list . It is from MONTENEGRO . During WWII Germans occupation they issued stamps from two cities ,the first being Kotor ,these are on Yugosalvia stamps and listed in the different catalogs . This stamp is issued for the city of Podgorica . I don't believe this was a actual issue{overprint} and my guess is that it was overprinted in Florence ,Italy after the war because there are a huge group of Italian overprints coming from that city in the late 1940's or early 1950's all related to the war and the different political groups . |

floortrader - Podgoritza is not missing in all ASFE collections, neither is Kotor. The second town you mention is Herceg Novi. At least missing in my ASFE collection. Can you provide a scan? |

Can you provide a scan ???? the scan is above . Podgoritza is the Russian or German spelling ,the people in Montenegro today spell it Podgorica . I found a scan of the stamp at mourningtheancient.com ,they call it a fantasy issue . |

My old Michel catalogue describes the PODGORITZA and HERCEGNOVI overprints as bogus ("Mache"). |
