PCLister, welcome to the forum. First of all, you ought to go to http://stampsmarter.com to find some good info on how to ID your stamp.
The dimensions of your stamp really do not mean much, and you should use the perforation gauge correctly. The black dots on the gauge should fit neatly and perfectly in the perforations of the stamp. Besides all of that, I really do not think you have a 596

Peter

The straight edges, left and right, on the 2 horizontal attached stamps indicate that the 3 stamps came from a booklet. Both #552 and #632 were also issued in booklet form (552a and 632a). As far as I know, there were no #596 in booklet format. The booklet format and the 1937 cancel date pretty much eliminates even a possibility of it being #596. You would need a much better perforation and mm guide to accurately measure the stamp or any stamp for that matter. In addition, the positioning of your mm rule is not lined up accurately for get a good reading. The thick mm lines interfere more than help for an exact measurement.

Re-check the vertical perforations very carefully. You will find they are indeed 10.5, and that your stamp is a 632a.
