The current light is being shined on Anthony's, yet they are only one of the more egregious examples. There are plenty of others.
No matter what buyer protection programs are put in place, they won't fix one of the biggest underlying core problems: buyers either not knowledgeable or greed clouding judgment.
How do we fix that? How do you protect someone from themselves?
P.S. If you really want to have the ASDA or
ebay take action against Anthony's (for the latter you'd likely have to take it to ASDA and have them exert pressure on
ebay, since
ebay would not have the philatelic knowledge to assess the reports), these little periodic snapshots do nothing. Someone would have to track and document a long sustained period of deception on an item-by-item basis, archiving not only the original listings but the results (see Stamp Smarter). But even then, for many of the items, it could be perceived as differing opinion, and the obvious out is "How can you tell for certain from an online image since you've never examined the actual item(s) in hand?"
I think these threads are more of a cathartic opportunity for people to vent than anything else...
