Any chance of a specific comment about what's ("obviously") wrong with each one?

I don't have an issue with the 99 other than it;s not fine, it's VG and it's got obvious faults.

That being said I don;t expect it to bring $500+ either.

I will ask anyone again. Has anyone reported him to ASDA?

1.315 is a trimmed perforated issue-counterfeit
2.8 we can not see the top or bottom frame breaks-would never certify as #8-counterfeit
3.99 we can't see grille, but last 99 they offered had an "added grill"-no proof either way on this one.
4.365 not bluish paper-counterfeit

Unfortunately, I could find many others without too much effort.

And yet there are multiple bidiots going after each one...

The current light is being shined on Anthony's, yet they are only one of the more egregious examples. There are plenty of others.

No matter what buyer protection programs are put in place, they won't fix one of the biggest underlying core problems: buyers either not knowledgeable or greed clouding judgment.

How do we fix that? How do you protect someone from themselves?

P.S. If you really want to have the ASDA or ebay take action against Anthony's (for the latter you'd likely have to take it to ASDA and have them exert pressure on ebay, since ebay would not have the philatelic knowledge to assess the reports), these little periodic snapshots do nothing. Someone would have to track and document a long sustained period of deception on an item-by-item basis, archiving not only the original listings but the results (see Stamp Smarter). But even then, for many of the items, it could be perceived as differing opinion, and the obvious out is "How can you tell for certain from an online image since you've never examined the actual item(s) in hand?"

I think these threads are more of a cathartic opportunity for people to vent than anything else...

ebay does not have to build a complex case. They can unilaterally shut anyone down. It is their world in which the bad actors play. Money outweighs ethics. Very simple.

I do not believe that we are simply "venting". The bad guys do watch this board, and at the very least, they are aware of our vigilance. I will take these examples and many other counterfeit Anthony's stamps that I have documented, and suggest to ebay that I can submit any or all to PF on my dime. Any that don't certify as to what they are purported, Anthony's would have to reimburse me for. The others, I would eat the fee, and Anthony's would obtain a free cert, a prospect I'm not too concerned about.

In Anthony's case, ASDA might mean "Assume Stamp Defective or Altered."

Bidiots indeed.

My clumsy attempt at a acronym to sum up a bad situation:

BATOIB - Bad actors thriving on ignorant buyers.

It should be pointed out that none of these are actually "counterfeits", which has a specific philatelic meaning. One is altered, one might be altered, one cannot be proven (and might be altered), and one is misdescribed (not the number it claims to be).

You are correct; technically speaking, these are not counterfeits. They are altered, possibly altered and mis-described. Bottom line, deception is still deception....

Technicalities matter to the hobby; the differences between the common and the rare are usually "technicalities". If one is going to attempt to fight fraud in the hobby, precise wording is essential to insure that everyone from the novice to the most advanced knows exactly what is wrong and why.
