I have this 2 cent with the mention on back error. I see line in upper right corner and white spots on left of the bust.

The spots is probably some ink missing. The line is hard to tell what happened - we would need a high definition scan of the back to make sure it is not just a crease.

Stamp looks like a 279B with a crease, some scuffs and at least one margin tear. The color looks more like a red or orange red, than a carmine. Also it should have double line watermark. Unwatermarked Scott 252 examples are scarce and may have rough perforations. A high resolution scan make it easier to determine the type.

Another example of the folly of writing a catalog number on the back of a stamp.

I'm thinking a crease because the line extends visibly from the design to the margin of the stamp.

silviosi, cheaper than a scanner (though unable to scan large items) try a USB Microscope. I use one made by Andostar and costs about $40. See the attached link. Besides being able to take a picture of your stamps it makes it much easier on the eyes to look at the small detail of each stamp.

I agree with pascoe. The crease is well past the design on both edges.
