can someone please help me identify the color on this stamp. It looks like claret brown to me. I have a pile of about 50 2 cent Washington's and this one just stood out. I am extremely new to this so any guidance is appreciated. Also as you can see it looks like right side of the stamp was cut off and the left has no perf...dont know if it is possible it could be horizontally perforated?
Hello. Looks like colour change due to poor storage, exposure to light etc. Also cut from envelope, damaging the right-hand side, and lacerated at the top right. A sorry state!
The yellowing around the perfs shows that this was stored in bad conditions. When it's like this, the color/ink is not reliably in the original state. I'd say the the normal carmine color for the issue is just slightly oxidized.
It's also best to compare with stamps of the same issue.
