I found this stamp recently in my collection.

It appears to have some doubling of the right side of the coach.

Probably a chatter print.

I know its unusual to find a modernish stamp with a re-entry so am not holding my breath.

But new finds are being made all the time, so here goes.

That is not a re-entry but "chill roller doubling". It is very well known and fairly common on several values of the Transportation Series that were printed on the Cottrell presses.

Thanks. Chill roller doubling, never heard that before.

I think I am going to learn much here.

Dynamode, sorry for not being clear enough. The chill roller's main job is to dry the wet ink on the paper at the end of a printing run. Mostly when the roller is not quite up to the correct temperature the ink does not dry fast enough and is deposited on another stamp. There it will look like a double print.

Thanks.

It seems that different countries sometimes have different names for the same thing. I have a problem with the really technical stuff since I retired. It makes my head spin.

I go on ralphs site at least a couple times a week, usually for many hours. The information and technical stuff there is mind boggling to me.

I know what I see. But what I see, is not always what it really is.

I have a technical background, and have worked from blueprints in the motor and aviation industries. But I am basically a nuts and bolts man.

I understand that re-entries can only be on engraved stamps. On any other kind of printing it can only be a kiss/chatter ect.

Not a problem, all part of the, in my case very slow, learning process.

Great info thanks.

I have a fairly large amount of kiss prints and misregistrations that look really good.

The Unitrade catalogue (Canada is my main interest) lists some kiss prints as varieties. Some with very high value.

Most other catalogues, and many experts, dismiss these as basically rubbish and worthless.

So a lot of the information out there, can be very conflicting and confusing.

I just collect them anyway. I like them. I like different.

Thanks Partime, I had totally forgotten about that one. Yes, on that stamp the chill roller doubling is much more apparent.
