Lake Podpec is a small karst lake (130 meters in diameter) situated in a valley near the village of Jezero. Water flows into the lake from several surface sources and flows out through a deep underground conduit.

The sanctuary includes nearly 2000 hectares of mangrove forest and dragonsblood (Pterocarpus officinalis) forest, with channels and mangrove swamps toward its margin.

Laguna de Pozuelo Natural Monument is located in the Jujuy province in northern Argentina. This Ramsar site, at an elevation of 4000 meters, is home to birds unique to the Puno region, such as the Andean avocet, the guayata, the Puna duck, the Puna flamingo, the Andean gull, the Puna chorlito and the giant gallareta. The site is also visited by migrating birds during the summer.

Al-Zura1 City Natural Reserve is located at the the end of the Ajman Creek which flows into the Persian Gulf. This Ramsar site is dominated by mangrove forests with a number of other coastal and inland wetland types such as intertidal mudflats, lagoons and creeks. The area supports nearly 90 indigenous and migratory bird species.

Junín National Reserve in central Peru protects the ecosystem of Lake Junín (elevation 4082 m) and the surrounding Central Andean wet puna. It houses 149 species of high Andean waterfowl, including Junin grebe, Junin crake, Puna teal, Andean goose, and Chilean flamingo.
