1999 SOUTH AFRICA Grey Heron (Andea cinerea) Foreign Postage Paid Aerogram.

In Gibbons' Stamp Monthly of August 2009 David Sinclair expands on an earlier story on some interesting errors on S A aerogrammes.

Two aerogrammes had pre-printed stamps which contained the design instruction rather than the correct text. The Grey Heron 'international rate' aerogramme of 1999 was one, and the Orange River Lily 'southern Africa rate' aerogramme of 2000 was the other. Both were captioned:

1999 Chris van Rooyen - English and Scientific name of Bird

The Heron should have been captioned Grey Heron (Andea cinerea) and the Lily should have been captioned Orange River Lily (Crinum bulbispermum), African Monarch (Danauschrysippus aegyptius) (there was no bird at all on the Lily aerogramme, just the flower with the butterfly!). Both errors were corrected by the Government Printers and new aerogrammes issued.

In this case I have the correct version, although the error version would have added some interest)

This 2014 Portuguese stamp featuring a bald eagle is more specifically a personalized stamp created for S.L. Benifica, a Portuguese sport (soccer/football) club. The flying eagle is an animal mascot. There is also a human mascot who attends games dressed as an anthropomorphic eagle.
