This 90c stamp of private mail courier Fastway Post New Zealand Ltd. shows a kakapo (Strigops habroptilus) or night parrot. This large, flightless, nocturnal parrot is a critically endangered species which today survives only on several isolated islands. From Wikipedia: "...as of February 2019, the total known adult population was 147 living individuals, all of which are named. Because of the introduction of predators such as cats, rats, ferrets, and stoats during European colonization, the kakapo was almost wiped out." |

This September 5, 2000 computer-vended stamp of Portugal pictures the Greater Flamingo (Phoenicopterus roseus). This is the largest species of flamingo. In addition to southern Europe, this bird inhabits Africa, the Indian subcontinent, and the Middle East. It is very closely related to the two new world flamingo species. This stamp is Portugal's last Kluessendorf (German) formatted, computer-vended stamp, and the last of such with water soluble gum. |

One of the stamps in Ireland's 2013 set of nine computer-vended, "Irish Animals and Marine Life" 4th series depicts a black-legged kittiwake (Rissa tridactyla). This member of the gull family is found in the northern hemisphere in both the Atlantic and Pacific regions, but is most commonly found in the North American and European coastal areas. From Wikipedia. "In North America, this species is known as the black-legged kittiwake, to differentiate it from the red-legged kittiwake, but in Europe, where it is the only member of the genus, it is often known just as kittiwake". |

In 2012, the Faroe Islands issued a set of 4 computer-vended stamps on the theme of native, fanciful animals. One of these depicts an Atlantic puffin dressed in high heels and a feather boa and wearing designer sunglasses. From Flickr (Saga Kapna), "Margarinfabrikkin - Torshavn Youth Centre was commissioned to design postage stamps for 2012 with the theme 'street art'. The result was these four drawings by two young girls, Saga Kapana and Laura Edit Torhalsdottir, who together call themselves 'Nadita'." |
