One of the stamps from Japan's 1998 "Greetings" sheetlet of 5 stamps features a pair of Australian parakeets, or budgerigars (Melopsitlacus undulatus). This stamp is Scott #2614c. Parakeet owners will recognize the bird on the left as a female, and the one on the right as a male. The area just above the beak is tan to dark brown on the females, and blue on the males.  |

On January 9, 1979 the DDR released this set of 6 "native songbirds" stamps. They are Michel #s 2388-93. 5pf. chaffinch (Fringilla coelebs) 10pf. nuthatch (Sitta europaea) 20pf. A se-tenant pair of bird stamps pays partial franking of this June 15, 2009 registered airmail cover from Krusevac, Serbia to the U.S.A. The pair is the "heart piece" (stamps) of a 2009 souvenir sheet. 22 d. Eurasian woodcock (Scolopax rusticola) 46 d. common rock thrush (Monticola saxatilis)   |

The eastern habitat of the white stork in Europe was recently limited to Belarus and the Baltic states.   In central Russia, storks live in zoos or in symbolic images of peace and tranquility.   But the climate has changed and I took this photo three days ago, 30 kilometers from the Moscow region.  By the way, in Russian there is an ancient, poetic name of a stork - "sterch" |
