This 2001, 50c stamp of the Bahamas depicts the Bahama Mockingbird (Mimus gundlachi) and its eggs. From Flickr.com, "The Bahama mockingbird is a species of bird in the Mimidae family. It is found in the Bahamas, Cuba, Jamaica, and the Turks and Caicos Islands, and is a vagrant to the United States." The cancel is Harbour Island Jan. 3, 2002.  |

On April 26, 2004 Finland issued a miniature sheet of six, 65c. stamps depicting indigenous "Animals of the Forest." The sheet is cut/imperforate around the stamp borders, except at the bottom. The upper right stamp of the sheet, the common raven (Corvus Corax) is shown here. From Wikipedia, Common ravens have coexisted with humans for thousands of years...Some notable feats of problem-solving provide evidence that the common raven is unusually intelligent. Over the centuries...it has been revered as a spiritual figure or godlike creature."   |

This Finnish, 65c. stamp depicting an Eurasian, or common magpie (Pica pica) is from a miniature sheet of 6 "Summer Gardens" stamps issued on May 7, 2003. From Wikipedia, The Eurasian magpie is one of the most intelligent birds, and is believed to be one of the most intelligent of all non-human animals. The expansion of its nidopallium is approximately the same in its relative size as the brains of chimpanzees, orangutans, and humans."   |

A toco toucan (Ramphastos toco) is depicted on this 2007 issue of Bolivia. From Wikipedia, "The toco toucan, also known as the common toucan, giant toucan or simply toucan is the largest and probably the best known species of the toucan family. On May 10, 1996 Japan issued two Bird Week stamps (Sc.#s 2523-4) featuring the narcissus flycatcher (Ficedula narcissina) the prefecture bird of Fukushima. In Japan, the tradition of May 10-16 as Bird Week began in 1950. From Wikipedia, "It is native to east Asia, from Sakhalin in the north, through Japan across through Korea, mainland China, and Taiwan, wintering in Southeast Asia, including the Philippines, Vietnam, and Borneo."   |
