It`s really hard to translate. I guess it`s from latin `sinister` - meaning `left`. Left side being associated in past times with the `wrong` side (see Bible for ex. - Matthew 25,32-33: `He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his LEFT.`). Singular `SINISTRAT`, plural `SINISTRATI` - suffering any CALAMITY (earthquake, flood, fire, landslide etc.) I found no such english word in my dictionary as `CALAMIT-ED` :) |

Interesting discussion It shows collectors do stuff offline like drop words into translators, I am constantly doing this. I cheated and took the wording from the ebay listing, but Sinistrati kinda made sense ("Calamity" as Daniel suggested) I was surprised Romaniastamps.com did not have it listed, it makes one wonder how it was used. The "6" on the blue, obviously on the front of the stamp is a transfer from the sheet above it, subsequent to printing. I think the Romanians have a word for this. |

1930 it is then. Thanks. Mine has a fiscal marking you would think. I would expect them to be used as a seal perhaps. Romanian online auctions? I'll have to look for that one. Not that I need anymore temptations to spend |

Quote: Cancelled on piece (3 Pengo) seen $90 Short validity- from 09.03.1945 till cca. 30.04.1945. Besides nowadays Sălaj (the former hungarian `Szilágy`) county is one of the smallest county in Romania. Many forged letters. note- The denomination is still hungarian- `fillér` and `pengő`. |

So do you think it has a valid place in Romanian philately? Or does it belong in an Hungary Album? Thanks.
