Romania : Postage Due :1950

A wonderful image captured, and rarely seen, of a postwoman
with letters and newspapers.
I really like the design of this double stamp.

(And how must have been the lass's poor back!)

During a currency revalue 2 years later, these stamps appear again overprinted (set of 4- brown missing)

Excellent - I already had that site bookmarked, but like most of my bookmarks, I haven't yet gone through the site to find out how useful it is.

I see that the "standard" work is dated from 1974 - no wonder there haven't been any copies floating around on ebay that I've been able to snag. I'll have to keep my eye open for it.

Mostly, it's chronological. I've worked out a table from the entries in Scott's, below. I found the chronological breaks useful in sorting down and pricing the issues.

1935 : 3 Martyrs :

wiki
The Revolt of Horea, Closca and Crisan (31 October 1784 - 14 December 1784) began in Zarand County,
Transylvania, but it soon spread all throughout all the Transylvania and Apuseni Mountains. Their main
demands were related to the feudal serfdom state of Romanians and the lack of political equality between
Romanians, being the oldest nation in Ardeal (Romanian denomination for Transylvania) and predominant by
number, and the other nations, Hungarians, Germans and Szeklers.

The leaders were Horea (Vasile Ursu Nicola, 1731 - 1785),
Closca (Ion Oarga, 1747 - 1785) and
Crisan (Marcu Giurgiu, 1733 - 1785).

They fought at Câmpeni, Abrud and Rosia and defeated the Austrian Imperial Army at Brad and Halmagiu on
27 November 1784.

The revolt was ceased by Horea in 14 December 1784, at Cîmpeni and afterwards, by treason, in January 1785,
the leaders were caught. Horea and Closca were executed by breaking on the wheel on 28 February 1785 at
Dealul Furcilor (Forks Hill), Alba-Iulia. Crisan hanged himself on the night before the execution.

I am unaware of current sensibilities in Romania today,
but in 1981 they were along these lines......

Do You Collect Romania?

If so, then Romanian Philatelic Studies, quarterly research bulletin of the Romanian Philatelic Club (84-87)
Kendrick Place, Jamaica Estates, N.Y. 11432, United States) is the periodical for you. The current issue, beside
me as I write, has contributions — all in English — from Czechoslovakia, Israel, Romania, Sweden and U.S.A.

The contribution from Sweden is a careful study of the Hungary 1945 provisionals (first issue), including errors,
counterfeits and postal usage. This issue, known as "Oreada I" — after the town of Oreada, where the
surcharging was undertaken by Sonnenfeld Printers — was sold out in about six weeks and the Oreada II issue
replaced them. Mixed frankings are sometimes found of the Oreada I surcharges in conjunction with Romanian
orunsurcharged Hungarian definitives.

From Romania, Laszlo Eros contributes a short note on the 1945 Satu Mare revenue stamps, issued to collect
funds to aid Jewish citizens who survived concentration and extermination camps.

Certain issues — nearly all of 1941-3 — are prohibited in Romania and, indeed, have been prohibited since late
1945. An interesting article by George Pataki lists, describes and illustrates these issues all of which have
Fascist or anti-Communist connotations, e.g. 1928 Bessarabia (SG 1092-8), 1941 War against Russia (SG
1512-5 and MS 1516) and 1942 Bessarabia (SG 1556-8) in which the 9L. + 4L. portrays the deposed King
Michael and the executed Marshal Ion Antonescu with Hitler and Mussolini.

These prohibited issues are not allowed to be described, illustrated, listed in catalogues or mentioned in articles
in Romania. Pataki's article had, therefore, to be removed from copies of the Studies sent to Romanian
subscribers.

Fair dinkum 22c,
you are an absolute whiz!

Romania : 1978 : "Daciada" Romanian Games.

My dealer's staff, cut off the top of the stock card to save ship weight, and beheaded the stamps as well
No, I didn't complain over 10c stamps,
but shame it was the top values.

Set of 6

Romania : 1964 : Bucarest Zoo

Bucharest Zoo was founded in 1955 as a "zoological corner" but became a real Zoo with a big number of animals just in 1962.

Naturally the Black Swan is very recognisable to me.
