The Anghel Saligny Bridge (formerly King Carol I Bridge) was built between 1890 and 1895 in Romania over the Danube and when it was completed it then became the longest bridge in Europe and the third longest in the world.
Designed by Romanian engineer Anghel Saligny.

The bridge was inaugurated on 26 September 1895 and as a test on the opening, a convoy of 15 whistling locomotives sped at 60 km/h, followed by a train reserved for 'guests', at 80 km/h.

Unusual The Aircraft registry of Romania does not List C-RAIU
belonging to a Bleriot SPAD, but to a DH9
I wonder if that is the designers prerogative?

It`s interesting, Romanian Stamp Catalogue gives the following description:
`Image: plane with inscription C-Raiu, name of captain CRAIU`
Vasile Craiu - I WW. military aviator. He was flying a Nieuport 17

The Cluj-Napoca Botanical Garden,was founded in 1920 by Alexandru Borza.

The garden is over 14 hectares in area, with over 10,000 plants from throughout the world. It is divided into ornamental, phytogeographic (geobotanical), systematic (taxonomical), economic, and medicinal sections. Romanian flora and vegetation are represented by plants from the Transylvanian plains, the Carpathian Mountains, Banat, etc.

Among the Botanical Garden's interesting attractions are the Japanese Garden (a garden in Japanese style, with a brook and a Japanese-style house), the Roman Garden with archeological remains from the Roman colony of Napoca, among them a statue of Ceres, goddess of cereals and bread, alongside cultivated plants that dominate contemporary Romanian agriculture.

Hi Rodney - very nice sheets!

These are now listed by SG as MS1629 and MS1630 issued on 1st February 1944 and were priced at £9.75 each mint in 2009. These two have perfs (or not) as described in the catalogue.

As you mention there also an overprinted version issued on 28th February, MS1635 and MS1636. These are priced at £24.00 each mint. The overprint reads "1744 1944".

Varieties (errors): first sheet - imperfed right side / perfed bw. 2+48 and 1+49 stamp

second sheet - perfed.

The perfed singletons of these stamps, (sheet stamps)
are currently on ebay, 4 stamps, "buy it now" for $8
