This Romanian stamp seems to have been postmarked at "Edinti Hotin".
Hotin was a county of Romania later split among Romania, Moldova and Ukraine (Khotyn). But I haven't located anyplace spelled "Edinti." In the part of Hotin now in Moldova there is an Edinet.
Does anyone know if now-Edinet was then-Edinti? Detective wanted! Thanks in advance.

Google deserves the praise, I just pressed the keys.
My major collection is Romania, but I was ignorant of that Pmk.
Edinet Moldova

The Postmark design is not familiar, I wonder TPO or maybe a "Mandate" (Money Order)

I should think that is a Money Order cancellation.
(Perhaps quite scarce?)

EdziuMM: Romania Scott#276 design A54 emerald 5 Lei with Edinti Hotin postmark.

Rod222: In Romanian, 'MANDATE' means 'Postal orders' and they are used, indeed, to send money via Post.

Hotin, nowadays part of the Republic of Moldavia, was almost 600 years ago the capital of Moldavia, ruled for 54 years by Stefan The Great. Since, it has been conquered by Tartars, Polish, Ukrainians, Russians and it was briefly part of Greater Romania, after WWI.
Edinit, as etymology, I believe to come from an Old Slavon root meaning 'unique'.
Well, hopefully, the above will motivate you guys to keep the stamps

Interesting.... I tried Edinti on Google & got no hits. Just unlucky, I guess. BTW, there's another search engine called dogpile.com that searches other search engines.
Anyway, thank you all. I don't mind that mandates are not STRICTLY postal, as long as I can ID the place of cancel.

Nowadays is called 'Edinet', a minor variation of the name to try make it sound less Russian: geo-politics stuff since Moldavia would like to join European Union, if the big Bear allows them to do it

As long as the Russians continue to prop up the breakaway province of Transnistria, Moldova will never be allowed into the EU. This situation has worked well for Russia, as it gives them a buffer state. They have since done the same thing in Georgia and Ukraine.
