A mint 98.

A 534b

It seems to be getting worse with this guy. Where is the ASDA and/or APS in this. Forget ebay.

I'm new and even though I've got a lot to learn I've at least learned to stay away from Anthony's. That said, help a new guy understand the issues with these stamps.

My observations are as follows:

The #98 seems extremely crudely printed so it is an outright forgery. Correct?

On the 534b I think I see remnant perfs on the bottom edge and one remnant perf on the right edge. So maybe this was made from a #425. Correct?

If I've missed the boat entirely please give me a quick summary of what makes these crap stamps Thanks,

Dennis

If I would buy that Lincoln and I would place it next to the real ones in my album then most likely the spirit of Abe would raise from his Memorial and haunt me forever after

On the other hand, since he has as we speak, only 30 bad reviews on ebay, perhaps that could be addressed by the community of honest philatelists? ... by spending $5 one could buy a cheap item inclusive of postage inside US and then post a review
To my knowledge, if a seller gets a certain number of consecutive bad reviews then ebay is reviewing that seller account.

The 534B was cut down from a Schermack coil. The 98 appears to have been cleaned.

Can't make a 534B from a 425, one is engraved and the other offset. Plus there are significant design differences between them.

Thank you revcollector. Clearly the above is an understatement.

"The 98 appears to have been cleaned."

... I believe there is damage on the back: a strip of the surface layer of the back that got torn when the stamp was detached from the cover or 'unhinged'. Right in front of the nose.

Possible. Obviously needs to be looked at personally.

Once again, please help the new guy.

You say the Anthony's is cleaned. Is that based on the fact that it looks light and washed out relative to this other one (from a philatelic auction house)? If not, what are the telltale cleaning signs?

In this case does cleaned mean a removed cancellation or cleaned of dirt? Thanks again,

Dennis

You can plainly see the cleaned pen cancel, I have marked it below

Alternatively, you can use RetroReveal to find hidden or cleaned cancels on black and white stamps.

Dennis, a "cleaned" stamp will always refer to the removal or attempted removal of a cancellation.
