I could not stop laughing and yes it has bidiots bidding on it. He is adding "As Is" to more and more of his listing. That makes it all better. LOL!

From the ASDA Code of Ethics

Quote:

7. I will properly, carefully and honestly grade and describe all merchandise offered for sale by me and indicate any faults, defects, restorations or alterations that may exist, to include indication of canceled to order material.

8. I will immediately refund on any item sold by me where the description was either inaccurate or misleading if the return is made within a reasonable period of time. So the assumption has to be that that ASDA allows this kind of behavior from its members.

16. I will not sell, produce, nor advertise counterfeit material in any form in violation of law.

ASDA Pledge
3. To refrain from dealing in stolen philatelic and counterfeit material, and to furnish buyers of repaired, regummed, reperforated, restored reprinted or otherwise altered philatelic material with a complete written statement showing in detail the nature of the changes and alterations in such material.

How in the world does ASDA look the other way?

This is not a case of a single poor listing. This is not a case of a simple mistake. Only a moron would miss the obvious and continuing trend that has been occurring over long periods of time (years). So the only logical conclusion is that the ASDA allows this kind of selling practices.

I'm always skeptical of organizations that "police" themselves. Too big of a conflict of interests and preservation instinct sometimes.

That is my cynical opinion as well. However, personally knowing some of the dealers in higher positions within the ASDA, I find it hard to believe that they are just ignoring reports that come in.

The question I have is whether anyone has filed a formal complaint that not only clearly outlines the pattern of deceptive listings, but also thoroughly documents the violations with screenshots of each listing.

In other words, an isolated text-only complaint about listing X, from someone with no standing to make the complaint, i.e., not the buyer of that item, may receive short shrift and be circular filed, compared to a lengthy report comprising a litany of immediately apparent spurious items, with supporting information.

Hi Dan
What you say is true and this was workable when use of the ASDA logo was not being promoted. But since the ASDA has begun promoting the use of the ASDA logo as a badge of ethics, they ought to consider revisiting this procedure. To establish that the ASDA logo is sign of a trusted member dealer, ASDA should consider what average hobbyists will do (since the trusted logo is mostly directed at them).

What are the chances that a hobbyists will hunt down their website, lookup the code of ethics, search for the complaint form, fill it out, and then wait for some resolution? Or will the vast majority of hobbyists simply say to themselves, 'the ASDA logo is meaningless' and just move on? I am not even sure how many hobbyists would be able to properly do discovery and supply teh correct evidence.

Perhaps the process ought to be, a simple onlinbe complaint form submitted with basic details from buyer. The ASDA then requires the seller to supply his detailed justifications. Then the ASDA makes a decision?

If the process is less arduous, then the amount of data gathered goes way up. With a larger body of data, then any trends become much easier to understand and act upon.

I would suggest a concerted e-mail and snail mail campaign directed to the ASDA President (Tami Jackson - tami@revenuer.com) and Vice-President (Stanley Piller - stmpdlr@aol.com). Snail mail addresses are available at: http://www.americanstampdealer.com/....aspx?id=483
