This morning I went to a local flea market. One man there sold stamps from an album. These albums are known in the Netherlands as 10 cent albums. You probably know what I mean.

Before I started looking, he also said that the last page was 50 cents each. I resisted looking at the last page first and started looking for stamps I collect. Unfortunately not much to be found although I did find a couple of Austrian stamps with Vienna, Brunn(Brno) and Praha(Prague) cancels.

Ok, looking at the last page with 50 cent items. You never know.

In front of me I saw 4 items that looked familiar, but I was unsure, French Assignats? If they were, 50 cent each was cheap, so I bought them.

They turned out to be "banknotes" issued in Mainz during the occupation of 1793. As far as I could google pretty rare and valuable.

What will I do with them? I will sell them, I have a friend. She has Lyme disease and as a result of that she is in a wheelchair. Medical costs are always high. So a bit of good fortune for me turns into a bit of good fortune for her.

You can find them in the 'Standard Catalog of World Paper Money, Specialized Issues' by George S. Cuhaj, page 637, Germany.

Looks like they have been glued in some old album/ scrapbook... 2 are still stuck on the papers (cut-out now)...

initially the the first one (upper left) was removed successfully, but "the remover" failed on very the next one... down right... and made some damage - a hole.

So, he gave up after that, and left the last 2 stuck on the papers to preserve them from extra damage.

I would like to thank aug-stamps and perf12 for the links provided.

You are right filipo, and I am so glad that he gave up on the last 2.
