It does to you. In your frame of reference. You have to step out of that frame of reference. It is not foolish, or overpaying, to them.

Just because they don't think so does not change the fact that it is. It just means that they either don't know or don't care. |

May I say that, if there's a redhead of a certain age who's offering a $500 dinner in London, I'm available most weekends ... |

We'll have to agree to disagree. You appear to think that there is a single objectively correct price (or range) for a stamp collection, that the buyer ought to know or care about, whereas I see all pricing as necessarily subjective and flexible based on the buyer's perception of value. I guess in that sense we can agree that certain buyers "don't care" about the "correct" price that you believe to exist. |

As I see it, Big Blue album collectors are a bit of a "cult"; that is the goal of "filling" the 34,500 space WW album is fun, a pleasure, and a hobby, not judged by strict catalogue standards. |

This is not simply about "catalog standards". This is about the fact that these are lots filled with common stamps in mediocre condition and that there are many hundreds of similar lots sold every year for far less money. Just as people are free to spend as much as they like on whatever they like, the rest of us are free to understand that the purchase was a poor one. I hope the buyers are happy because I'm sure they made the sellers very happy. |

Perhaps because I see large lots every day and know that for the same money either collector might have purchased a much nicer lot. |

Some people are willing to pay more for presentation than what is presented, I guess. The 67th Annual Big Blue Album Page Completion Invitational. Winner receives bragging rights. Sure, why not? It seems dumb as heck to me, but who am I to judge what makes others happy? Most people think that collecting little bits of 150-year-old paper is lunacy to begin with. |

No one is asking for my two pfennigs worth, but I personally admire and perhaps buy the painting, and I don't care so much about the frame that holds said painting.
