I hadn't seen this amazing exhibit before, and I didn't find it linked in the forums.

I found it fascinating to look at the ink "clouds" on the partial 1-cent sheet.

Also included is a full pane of the 3-cent imperforates (#11A plate 3 right).

Did you get to see this exhibit, stampcrow? Was the 3-cent sheet there?

It was also at an ASDA show in NY about 3 years ago. A friend had the frames on the other side and I had the chance to listen to them as they each showed the other their exhibits.

I've got to say, I don't remember seeing it...

I went to the shows web page just now and found it listed. I'm sure I would have remembered the full plate 3 sheet, and also the strip of 4 'plum' on cover. hmmm

Although I was new to collecting the 3 center then and there was a forest of material on display.

Gordon's exhibit is first rate.
Not only does he have many major pieces, but the overall quality of material he has is outstanding.

I looked at this exhibit in Hartford back in 2014 and was blown away by it.

The silk thread stamps are quite obtainable. Probably most people with a sizable holding of 3c 1851's will have a few. There is an old Chronicle article on the subject. I think the author was Taft but I may not be remembering correctly.

I examined about 35 of my 3-cent imperforates tonight, and found four with blue silk fibers. The Taft article noted that the silk fibers are more often blue than red, and vary in length from 1 to 4 mm.

Here are two examples. The first specimen has a full-stamp image, and a 2400 DP! closeup:
